Whether you are hosting a Super Bowl party or attending one, chances are good that food is going be a big part of preparing for the big game. As you prepare for the football game of the year, it may help to have a few healthier food options that you can enjoy before, during, or after, the party. But first, how about a few Super Bowl statistics…
SUPER BOWL FOOD STATISTICS
According to the USDA, Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food consumption day of the year in the U.S, behind Thanksgiving.
Wings, wings, and more wings! The National Chicken Council estimates that in 2019, Americans will consume an all-time high of 1.38 billion wings, which I can’t even wrap my head around.
Another food we associate with the Super Bowl…PIZZA! Dominoes alone expects to deliver 13 million slices this Sunday.
How about some chips to go with those wings and that pizza? If this year is anything like past Super Bowl Sundays, Americans will likely eat more than 11 million pounds of chips.
And this statistic is my favorite…Â Antacid sales tend to spike by about 20 percent on the Monday after the Super Bowl, and roughly 6 percent of Americans call in sick this day.
Okay, so we know the potential temptations (and consequences) we may face this Sunday. Now let’s talk about some delicious distractions that can keep up from going off the deep end, and calling in sick on Monday.
First line of defense:
Eat healthy before the big game.
Of course, you can always munch on some fruits and vegetables before, during, or after the game, but another smart move is to sip on some healthy, low point soup. Eating a simple low point soup prior to the game can help curb your appetite so you are not as tempted to load up on lots of pizza and wings when it comes time for the game.
Second line of defense:
Bring healthy snacks to the Super Bowl party.
Today’s list shares snacks, salads, and burgers that are between 0-8 WW Points per serving! If you are looking for BBQ wings, the Grilled Chicken with Homemade BBQ Sauce is my favorite, and it is just 2 WW Points per serving. If you are looking for a fun finger food, we love the Phyllo Cheeseburger Cups that are just 4 WW Points for five phyllo cups! The truth is, I love all of the recipes on this list, or I would not be sharing them with you. Pick two or three to share this Sunday to make it a fun night with GREAT food!
