It’s grilling season! Yay! In Indiana this is the time of the year we grill out in shorts one day and bundle up our coats the next… but it’s still grilling season. I wanted to give you a reason to bust out the grill and this recipe will do just that. Trust me when I say that this steak recipe is totally worth getting out the grill for!
This steak tastes so good and you won’t believe how easy it is to make. Dinner will be on the table in less than ten minutes. Seriously. You just mix 5 ingredients, coat the steak, grill it, and you’re done. No marinating necessary. This is my new favorite way to make steak.
Which kind of steak is lowest in smart points?
I used steak from our local beef mart. It tasted amazing, but it was not the leanest cut of meat. When I entered “New York Steak” in the recipe builder (which is what I got), it said that one 4 ounce serving is 7 WW Smart Points. (oops) When I swapped it out for flank steak (very lean meat) in the recipe builder and it was just 3 WW Smart Points for 4 ounces. Quite a difference, so pay attention to the kind of steak you are getting. I used the lean flank steak in this recipe to bring the smart points down. Here are a few smart point totals for 4 ounces of different kinds of raw steak you might find in the store:
- Flat Iron Steak (5 SP)
- New York Steak (7 SP)
- Top Sirloin Steak (2 SP)
- T-Bone Steak, lean and trimmed (7 SP)
- Lean Flank Steak, trimmed of fat (3 SP) … this is the one I used when I calculated the points and nutrition facts.
Bison (buffalo) Top sirloin steak is the winner at just 2 WW SP per 4 ounces! (shock face)
Oh! One more thing… This steak smells fantastic when it is cooking. That’s all.
Here is all you need for the best steak ever:
1-1/2 teaspoons fresh basil, chopped
1-1/2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound lean flank steak
Here is what you do:
Mix the first 5 ingredients together.
Coat the tops and bottoms of the steak with the garlic/seasoning mixture.
Grill 4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
That’s it!!
Makes 4 servings.
One serving is 3 ounces cooked steak.
One serving is 3 Green, 3 Blue, and 3 Purple points.
