Earlier in the week I gave you a quick tour of my kitchen and the top 5 reasons to love a small kitchen.
I also showed you my spice drawer and told you I would be back to tell you how I did it!
One of the biggest frustrations I had when cooking was opening the spice cabinet and having the spices fall out while I was searching for that one spice I needed. Admittedly, I am short. So for me peering up into an upper cabinet trying to get to a spice in the way back, it was a headache.
There has to be a better way!
Let me tell you, there is.
A drawer. If you are blessed enough to have a deep enough drawer to fit a 4 oz ball jar, you can have your own spice drawer. Every time I slide open my spice drawer it makes me happy! My spices and I get along now… No more fighting with them!
I found some super cute 4 oz ball jars at a garage sale and knew they would be the perfect size to hold spices. I was right.
This is such an easy project that as long as you have all your materials it will only take you an afternoon to complete.
Here is what you need: 4 oz ball jars
Rings and Lids (count how many spices you have to figure out how many jars you need)
Chalkboard paint
Round foam paint brush (not pictured)
Chalk (not pictured)
Step 1: Wash your ball jars, rings and lids
Step 2: After they are dry, put one coat of chalkboard paint on the lids and let dry
Step 3: Follow step 2 two more times to make 3 coats of paint total.
Step 4: Empty your spices into the jars (you may have some leftover, if it’s not much I don’t keep it-if it is a lot I will store it in my pantry)
Step 5: Pick a newly painted jar lid and write in chalk or chalk pen the name of the spice. (If the paint scrapes off your lid while doing this you need another coat of paint)
Step 6: Add jar lid and ring
If you want to keep the expiration date handy for your spice you can put a little sticky label on the bottom with the expiration date.
Whoops! Guess I need new Rosemary!
Once your jars are all done, add them to your drawer.
Let me know if you have any questions, I would be glad to help!
