I have been going through a busy season of life and exercise has not even been on my radar. The problem with not working out for a long time is that you become less and less motivated to work out the less you work out. The good news is that the opposite is also true. If you exercise a few days in a row you become more motivated. You remember that it feels good to work out again. Your muscles say, “Hey! Good job! Do that again!” and it makes you want to keep at it. Energy creates energy. It seems counter-intuitive but as you work out you actually boost your energy level. (Unless, of course you push yourself too hard. I will tell you my story with that later in this post).
Could you use a little more energy?
How about a renewed excitement to work out again?
If you just answered yes, then you are going to love this week’s MPM giveaway!
Miracle Miles Workout DVD’s
and resistance band set giveaway.
I am excited about this giveaway because I think the Miracle Miles package can help so many people who are like me. There are three categories of people I have in mind with this giveaway:
- The busy bee. This is the person whose schedule is jam-packed with one thing after another and taking 30 minutes to workout in the midst of all the business just seems like too much to ask.
- The uninspired. This is the person who knows working out is a good idea, but they just don’t care enough to do anything about it. You know who you are. 😉
- The workout class wannabe. This is the person who loves workout classes, but none of the classes offered at the gym fit their schedule or they know they would have a lot of fun in a class if there just weren’t all those other people there.
Just so we are all on the same page, I am all three of those people in one.
Where my love of “Walk At Home” started.
Several years ago one of my friends introduced me to Leslie Sansone. She showed me some of her workout DVD’s and I thought, “I could actually enjoy this!” The DVD’s were easy enough to follow that I wasn’t intimidated and I just couldn’t help but be drawn to Leslie’s upbeat “can-do” attitude. I felt like I had found my new work-out buddy. I would even go as far as to say that if I was going to pick my own personal trainer I would pick this lady in a green shirt right here:
Isn’t she adorable!?
Fast forward to a couple of months ago. I wanted to start working out again (it had been a while), but I wasn’t feeling motivated (which happens when you haven’t worked out in a long time). I had forgotten all about Leslie’s DVD’s when a sponsored post, showing the newest Walk-At-Home package, popped up on my Facebook newsfeed. So I did what every smart blogger does. I reached out to her producers and asked if they would send me her package so I could try it out and do a review and giveaway on Meal Planning Mommies and I am thrilled to tell you that they said “YES!”.
One lucky MPM reader is going to win this awesome set!
I actually have a YMCA membership but I don’t make it over there as much as I would like. I enjoy doing workout classes but the times they offer them do not fit well with our family’s schedule.
A little story about my experience with a morning step class.
About a year ago I decided I was going to magically become a morning person. I thought if I woke up early enough to make it to a 6:00 a.m. class then I would be more successful (because don’t all successful people wake up at 5:00 a.m.?) and I thought I would have all this extra energy the rest of the day (because don’t people who work out first thing in the morning have more energy the rest of the day?).
Well, I was wrong. I hate mornings no matter what I am doing, but ESPECIALLY if I am working out.
It was a step class. I way overdid it the first time I went because I wanted to keep up with everyone else. The mix of waking up way too early and working out super hardcore when I hadn’t worked out in a long time just did me in and I felt so sick I thought I was going to throw up. Feeling nauseous, I walked out of the class about half way through. I did about five more classes.
Well, my morning gym experience ended this way: One day I got to the gym on a TERRIBLE weather day. I mean, schools were getting cancelled because it was beyond freezing and it was not safe to be outside. I didn’t know that, though, because it was the beginning of the day and I didn’t check the weather channel, so I got my shoes on and made the drive to the empty YMCA parking lot. There was a sign on the door saying that the YMCA was closed. I drove home, ate my breakfast in my nice warm home, and decided I was done waking up early to exercise.
The best time to work out is when you will do it…
and the best work out for you is the one you will do.
From my failed morning workout attempts I came to the realization that the best time to work out is “whenever you will do it” and the best work out to do is the “one you will want to do”. What does that look like for you? For me, I find that I have a boost of energy at the end of my workday and I get a little over a half hour between the time I get home from work and when my kids get off the school bus so that is my prime time to exercise. My next best time to work out is at night after the kids go to bed.
What I love about having this set in my home!
This is what I love about having these DVD’s in my house! I can do the workouts whenever I want, saving me the stress of not being sure if I can squeeze my workout in before the kids get off the bus. I can do a workout that is fun for me whenever it is convenient for me and that is EVERYTHING.
Do you have a half hour in your day where you could put some shoes on, pop a DVD in, and do a “2 mile walk” with Leslie? On a day when you have a little bit more time you can stretch yourself and do the one-hour “4 mile walk”. You get to decide which DVD works for the time and the energy level you have that day. It’s so versatile! I love it!
