I have been in a serious BBQ phase lately. It just sounds so yummy, all the time! A friend of mine, Heidi, gave me this recipe and said I absolutely HAD to try it. It is a recipe she makes often for her family and for company as well! I couldn’t agree more. This is a super easy and delicious way to eat Pork Tenderloin. The homemade Apple Barbecue sauce is an added bonus!
Here is what you need for the pork rub:
Pork Rub: 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, 2 TB Montreal Steak Seasoning, 1 TB kosher salt, 1 TB chili powder, 1 TB garlic powder, 1 tsp cayenne red pepper.
Mix all of the spices together to make the Spicy Brown Sugar Rub. You can store it in an airtight container for up to 6 months! You won’t need to use all of the rub for this recipe. The rub would be great on chicken, turkey or beef as well!
Preheat your oven to 500 degrees. I know. Trust me.
Now take your pork tenderloin and put it in a foil lined roasting pan. You can use whatever roast size works for your family! Mine was 4.5 lbs and it was A LOT! Then rub the spicy brown sugar rub all over it. Top, Bottom, Sides etc.
Next up…. let’s cook that roast!
Put your roast on the lower 1/3 rack. For every pound, cook for 5.5 minutes at 500 degrees.
DO NOT OPEN OVEN WHILE COOKING!!! (This was hard for me to do as it looked like my oven was on fire!!! There was smoke coming out from the top of the stove! I was really nervous that I was burning the roast… but it turns out it was just fine!)
After the time is up, turn OFF the oven and continue cooking for another hour.
When you take the roast out of the oven, let sit 5 minutes before slicing.
While it is cooking, let’s make the Apple BBQ sauce!
Here is what you need: 2 cups apple juice, 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp cloves, 1/2 tsp ginger, 3 cloves garlic, crushed, 2-3 green onions, chopped.
Place it all in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and stir occasionally. Simmer 25 minutes.
Ready for the finished roast?
Isn’t it gorgeous?
Now wait 5 minutes and slice it. It is super moist, tender and full of flavor!
Now add the Apple BBQ sauce and a few sides!
My husband said the Apple BBQ sauce tasted “like fall.”
I have to agree. It tasted like fall and my house smelled like fall.
We will make this BBQ sauce from now on for chicken, pork, beef etc.
