With Memorial Day right around the corner, I just had to share this simple salad you can take to your family and friend get-togethers. This also is a great 4th of July salad.
With just 6 ingredients and one easy step (provided that the bacon is pre-cooked) you can have this salad ready in less than five minutes. We used bacon. To save on time, you could buy the pre-cooked bacon that you can microwave for less than a minute.
Ways to change up this salad.
The core ingredients for this salad are romaine lettuce, strawberries, bacon, bleu cheese, slivered almonds and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Here are a few variations to consider based on your tastes and what you have on hand:
- Switch out the slivered almonds for chopped walnuts.
- Switch out the strawberries for cranberries.
- Switch out the bleu cheese for feta cheese.
- Switch out romaine for another type of lettuce.
- Add more or less of any of the ingredients.
- Turn it into a Red, White, and Blue-berry salad. (See below)
A Memorial day and 4th of July Salad.
If you are wanting your salad look patriotic you can turn it into a “red, white, and blue-berry salad” by adding in some blueberries. Nothing screams Memorial Day that a salad with all the colors of the flag, right? I have eaten it both ways and liked it with and without them.
Alternatively you could serve the salad with blueberries on the side. Finding fun little ways to sneak this power-food into your diet is always a good idea.
What kind of dressing should I use?
You can use any light Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing, but I really like the Kraft version: Kraft lite Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing.
How pretty is this salad? Here’s how to keep it looking pretty…
The only advice I would make in regards to this salad is if you are taking it to a party and won’t be eating it right away, wait to pour the salad dressing over the salad until you are just about to serve the salad. Otherwise the romaine lettuce will get soggy, and nobody wants a soggy salad.
