I have recently been trying to get my kids to eat healthier snacks. More specifically grain and refined sugar free snacks. Snacking on high fat, low carb, low sugar foods will help them to feel full and fueled longer without the sugar crash.
In order to make this healthy snack change more fun I created a Snack Menu and posted it on the fridge. Initially I just took notebook paper titled it SNACK MENU and wrote a list of options. The options were all foods I felt would be healthier choices for my girls and easy for them to prepare on their own.
You may laugh at some of my choices like a spoonful of peanut butter?! Hey, when you are gluten free you learn to adapt. We don’t need the crackers anyway! But have no fear, if you snack choices are different than mine, you can print the blank Snack Menu and fill in your own menu. Another idea is to laminate the blank snack menu (or put it in a sheet protector) and use a dry erase marker for the snack items. By doing it this way, you can edit your snack menu daily!
The basic idea of the Snack Menu is to give your children healthy snack options in a way that feels fun for them without them asking over and over “What’s for snack?”

Thanks for the resource! I am also on a journey to cut out refined sugars, so I appreciate the ideas.

I love this idea! Although my boys would freak out if they saw “olives” on the list…funny how we all have our certain aversions. Our house is gluten-free, too, by the way. 🙂

Kathleen, the funny thing is I have one girl that likes green olives, one that likes black olives and one that can’t stand either! Haha! I use this list as a reminder for myself as well to make healthy snack choices and I love olives so I had to include it on my list! Glad you like the snack list, it really does help keep the kids from always asking what is an acceptable snack!

I am unable to click on and print the snack list.
Thank you for sharing and all your hard work.

Hmmm… thanks for pointing that out, Donna. I will look into this one a little more. It looks like Sarah saved it as a picture. I may have to recreate this printable and save it as a PDF.

Okay, it should work just fine now. Thanks Donna. 🙂 It’s a PDF now that should be easier to print onto an 8.5×11 inch piece of paper.
