My family has been planning a trip to Disney World for over a year now! My husband has scoured the internet for tips and advice of what to do and what not to do, and he has done such a good job of pulling things together to make this trip possible. We got our magic bands in the mail a couple of weeks ago and you know what that means?
WE’RE GOING TO DISNEY BABY!!!
The Big Disney Reveal
We decided to let our kids know that we were going to Disney 30 days before we were leaving. We felt that by doing that we were giving them enough time to get excited about the trip but not so much time that they were driving us nuts for a whole year. Our big reveal went like this: Scott brought the kids home and asked them to go get the mail. While they were “getting the mail” he came inside and put an envelope on the table that had their names on the front. When they came inside he said, “Oh! I guess your mom already got the mail. It’s here on the table. Look, there is some mail for you guys!” He had Preston, our oldest son, open the envelope and read to his brother and sister what it said. It said “SURPRISE!” on the outside of the card and it had a picture of Cinderella’s castle on the front. On the inside it said, “We’re going to Disney!” After Preston read it there was a moment of shock, followed by our kids jumping around and squealing for a few seconds, followed by a bunch of questions. We referred to our posters to answer their questions.
The Disney Countdown
The night before our big reveal my husband and I stayed up past midnight making our countdown poster and our “schedule” poster.
We came up with 30 things we could do that were Disney related so that each day leading up to the trip one of the kids would pull off the mickey and show what was under it. Each day we would either be doing, making, eating, watching, or playing something. The nice thing about Disney is that their stuff is literally EVERYWHERE. I mean, think about it… almost every store you go in has something Disney. Disney shirts, socks, activities, stickers, stuffed animals, videos, video games, board games, costumes, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, plates, cups, silverware, and they even have Disney food like fruit snacks, cereal, mac and cheese, and spaghetti-o’s!!! We came up with some of our own original ideas, but most were super easy because the work was already done for us. Here is what our Countdown poster looked like with all of our countdown activities written in…
and this is what it looked like after we covered all the spaces with the Mickey countdown numbers.
Our “schedule” poster showed where we would be going and when. This was an idea my husband came up with to give them a visual of what the trip would look like, but I think it helped me more than them. 🙂
Here is my husband explaining the poster to the kids…
We are down to the last few days of the countdown and we are getting pumped. Here is what our countdown poster looks like today…
Tomorrow we pull off #4 and we will be just 4 days away from hopping on an airplane and showing the kids what all this hype was all about! WAHOO!!! (did I mention I am excited yet?) Tomorrow I will share some of the snacks that were on our countdown, along with a few of our other countdown ideas. Stay tuned.
