These better burgers are…. well…They’re just better. They are “better burgers”. Better tasting and better for you. The seasonings makes it taste better and the wheat germ does it’s job of packing fiber into each burger. You’ll like these!
Little note to the chef in your family: This recipe makes a lot of burger!! In our family, it actually counts for three meals and I just freeze the burgers we don’t use that night and reheat them in the microwave another night. This last time I made them, though, I decided to double the recipe and I used the hamburger meat in other recipes later. I could pull out a couple of extra burgers when I made spaghetti and used the burger meat in the spaghetti sauce, and one night I made tacos out of four burgers and some taco seasoning. These are delicious. I think you will be very glad you tried this recipe. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 pounds lean ground beef
3/4 cup wheat germ
2 eggs
1/2 cup half-and-half (we used milk because it is what we had)
2 Tbs. minced onion
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dried marjoram or oregano
1/4 tsp. dried thyme
8 hamburger buns
(picture reflects me doubling the recipe)
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, wheat germ, eggs, half-and-half, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, marjoram and thyme. I mix it with my hands to make sure that everything is mixed really good so nobody ends up with a bite full of salt or something yucky like that. Shape into 8 patties. (I usually make 12 when I do not double the recipe, so this time I made about 20-24)
Grill for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until internal temperature reaches 150 degrees. I usually transfer the burgers to a plate and pat off some of the grease with paper towel.
Place a slice of cheese on top during the last 2 minutes of cooking, if desired.
Place burgers on buns and top with lettuce, onion, ketchup, mayo, pickles, and tomato…or whatever you normally pu on your burger. I happen to think the more stuff on the burger the better, My husband does not agree with me on that one. Add what you like. Something else you might consider trying is putting barbeque sauce or A1 sauce on these for a different taste. I love A1 sauce on cheeseburgers. (it’s weird, I know) Here is my little creation this last time we ate better burgers…
ENJOY!!!!!!
