Whether you are a teacher, a parent, a grandparent, or someone looking for a fun theme for a baby shower, this post is for you! All of these picture-book inspired snack ideas were used at a baby shower for my friend recently, but these ideas would also be great as after-school snacks or special treats in a classroom. I am including lots of links so if you find an idea on here that you are interested in you will be able get to the books, goodies, and recipes easily.
Children’s Book Themed Baby Shower Ideas
About a month before the baby shower some good friend’s of the parents were asked to think of a children’s book and come up with a snack for the shower that would relate to that book. My friend and I worked together to make snacks to go with the Green Eggs and Ham book. Several others creatively came up with their own unique ideas. Then, each person brought their snacks and books to the shower about a half hour before the shower started. Everyone enjoyed the snacks at the shower and at the end of the shower the new parents got to keep the books as gifts for their baby. Isn’t that a fun idea?
Decorations for a children’s book
themed baby shower.
My plan was to show you the snacks that were served at the shower, but the decorations were cute too, so I thought I would throw them in here.
Pinwheels snacks to go with the pinwheel decorations.
Don’t even get me started on these pinwheel snacks. These wraps cut into pinwheels were DELISH!
For 18 different delcious pinwheel recipes you can go here.
They also had mini chicken salad croissants. For a chicken salad croissant recipe you can go here.
They used story book pages to make pinwheels and paper fan decorations throughout the room. This is a smart and inexpensive way to decorate a large room. Paper Fans are a really fun way to spruce up any party really, and they are easy to make too.

Snacks for a Children’s Book
Themed Baby Shower.
Okay, let’s talk about the snacks now. We will start with the snacks that me and my friend made.
Green Eggs and Ham Snack Ideas
My friend and I teamed up and made snacks to go with the Dr. Seuss book, Green Eggs and Ham. I used my famous deviled egg recipe and just added a bit of blue food coloring to the egg yolk mixture. They turned out even better than I expected them to. I was so pleased. If you are looking for a great deviled egg recipe for Easter this one is my personal favorite and gets raving reviews every time I make them. Then I just rolled ham slices and cut them in half. That part was easy peasy.
I got my egg trays at The Dollar Tree, where everything is literally one dollar, which made my thrifty heart sing… especially since I was bringing five dozen eggs.
My friend, Jesica, made these “green eggs and ham on bacon” snacks that she found on Pinterest. She said the trick was to make sure your oven is set to 250°F. Anything higher than that is a mess.
Jesica had a Dr. Seuss hat so she brought it too. It was a fun little extra touch. The hats are sold here.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Snack Idea
Do you remember the first time you read the book, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”? If this book doesn’t expand the imagination of a child I don’t know what will. I am not sure if it says something about me or not, but as a kid the thought of cheeseburgers falling from Heaven sounded fabulous!
Simple sweet and sour meatballs cooked in a crockpot and transferred to a plate is an easy snack that goes with this book. For fun, you could even cook spaghetti noodles and put them around the outside of the plate of meatballs.
For a tasty slow cooker sweet and sour meatball recipe you can go here.
The Jesus Storybook Bible Snack Idea
Every baby shower needs a veggie tray, right?! The Jesus Storybook Bible takes stories from the Bible and brings them all back to Jesus. The pictures are bold and colorful, making a brightly colored veggie tray a good choice for this book. A veggie tray would also go great with the Veggie Tales book, God Made You Special.
Corduroy
A great old classic. Refrigerated cookie dough, poked with holes (using the end of a straw) and cooked according to the directions on the packaging makes this snack idea very quick and simple. You could also do this snack with Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. You can check out this snack idea (with colorful buttons) here.
If you are looking for something fun to add to this one you could include a stuffed Corduroy doll. Kohl’s Cares sells this adorable stuffed Corduroy doll here for a really great price!
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Remember this old classic? The adorable and mischievous rabbits you cannot help but love! The snacks that went with this book were carrot cake muffins with frosting and topped with gummy carrots.
For a delicious carrot cake cupcake recipe with cream cheese frosting you can go here.
You can get gummy carrots here.
You can get the “Tale of Peter Rabbit” book here.
Amazon also sells stuffed Peter rabbits. How can you not love this little guy? You can purchase him here.
Hop on Pop
Here’s another simple snack idea. Have you ever eaten “Chicago style popcorn“. The combination of cheddar popped popcorn with caramel flavored popcorn is over-the-top delicious!
To keep things really simple, you can get a bag of Chicago popcorn here. I love this G.H. Cretors brand.
A Fish out of Water
Blue punch makes the “water” and vanilla ice cream makes the “foam” on top of the water with this drink idea. I thought this was a creative way to include an extra book at the drinks table.
Making blue punch is actually super easy. For an “Ocean Float” recipe that would be perfect for this you can go here.
The Day the Crayons Quit
This best-selling book is a MUST READ! It’s adorable and kids absolutely love it. You will too because it is so cleverly written. Because the book highlights each color crayon individually it just makes sense to have a bright and beautiful tray of fruit. The book does not leave out the white crayon, so it feels right to serve creamy (and delicious) white dip alongside the brightly colored fruit. Betty Crocker has a quick and easy 3-ingredient, 5 minute fruit dip here. How pretty is this tray of fruit!?
Rechenka’s Eggs
How fun are these deviled eggs? Perfect Easter colors. So pretty. This book, Rechenka’s Eggs, is VERY highly rated. To learn how to make deviled eggs bright Easter colors you can check out Melanie Makes’ blog here. For the best ever deviled egg recipe go here.
Random bonus idea:
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
This idea just came to me today. Swedish fish! Because who doesn’t LOVE swedish fish? 🙂 They make them multi-colored/flavored now, so this could be an extra thing to add to the table that would be super simple to do.
So what do you think?
Is there a child you can make feel special
with some of these ideas?
I hope you enjoyed these ideas! I promise that if you go out of your way to make one of these snacks with the child(ren) in your life and sit down with them and read the book to go with it they will never forget it! Kids love this stuff and it makes them feel very special when you take the time to do above-and-beyond things like this with them, and for them.
